Moving from "Activity Programming" to Engaging Residents with Real Life

transforming from institution to home

Edu-Catering (Activity) Meaningful Engagement Consultation.

  • Provide training and compliance feedback on federal CMS Reform of Requirements/Mega Rule regulations most pertaining to activities:
  • F679 Activity regulation text and guidance
  • Review and teach the CMS Critical Element Pathway for Activities as well as for all other pertinent CMS Critical Element Pathways
  • F680 Qualified Activity Director
  • F636 Comprehensive Assessment
  • F655 Comprehensive Person-Centered Care Planning
  • F655 Support the domains of wellbeing: security, identity, autonomy, meaning, connectedness, growth and joy
  • F655 Assist each resident to attain or maintain Highest Practicable Level of Physical, Mental and Psychosocial Wellbeing Right to participate in care planning
  • F675 Quality of Life and its new focus on pervasive disregard of quality of life
  • F561 Self-determination/Choices
  • F744 Services for persons living with dementia
  • Review resident activity assessments, care plans, progress notes and activity participation records and monthly activity calendars.
  • Identify INEFFICIENCIES and where TIME SAVING processes so team members can spend more time with residents: streamlining activity documentation using technology - no more paper developing super-short rehab assessments develping meaningful activity assessments asking residents ONLY questions regarding activity preferences and life interests.
  • Give recommendations for regulatory compliance, standards of practice and best practices.
  • Whole team consultation, education and encouragement to move away from traditional “activity programming” towards engaging residents with real life. All staff trainings in order to invite, encourage and even create new expectations of all staff to engage residents with life.
  • In Colorado, Colorado Chapter V LTC regulations Section 9 Activities. Provide training and compliance feedback on state regulations.

Not your typical activity consultation.

An activity/recreation team cannot do it alone.

We must create a cutlure whereby all staff are invited, encouraged and even expected to engage residents in real life.

No more "activity programming" - that's insitutional.

Let's live real life with those living where we happen to work.
